We are soliciting manuscripts from the 9th International Fire Ecology and Management Congress (https://afefirecongress.org/) with the theme Life with Fire: Prescriptions for Resilience for submissions to a special collection in the journal Fire Ecology https://fireecology.springeropen.com/, the journal of the Association for Fire Ecology and a premiere open-access outlet.

All manuscripts submitted to the Fire Ecology Special Collection will be handled by the editorial board created for this Collection and undergo standard external peer reviews as directed by the journal. This Special Collection will adhere to Fire Ecology timelines and standards for quality and rigor. Papers published elsewhere or in consideration elsewhere will not be considered. Manuscripts resulting from oral presentations, posters, Fire Circles, and workshops are eligible for submission. Syntheses or reviews from organized sessions are particularly encouraged.

Fire Ecology (https://fireecology.springeropen.com/submission-guidelines) publishes the following article types:

  • Original research
  • Review
  • Forum
  • Monograph
  • Technical note
  • Field note

For this Special Collection, we are particularly interested in manuscripts that focus on the theme of the Congress (Life with Fire: Prescriptions for Resilience), including, but not limited to:

  • Ecology (physical and biological fire effects, fire regimes, etc.)
  • Fire management
  • Fire science and modeling
  • Fuel
  • Inter- or cross-disciplinary fire-related topics
  • Law and policy
  • Planning and risk management
  • Social sciences (geography, sociology, anthropology, etc.)
  • Technology transfer products

The Special Collection editorial team will work to move articles through review rapidly. Accepted articles will appear online as they are accepted, with the bulk of the Collection published during 2022. Further details on the submission guidelines, article processing charges, timelines, and editorial policies can be found at https://fireecology.springeropen.com/about.

We have a limited number of Article Processing Charge (APC) waivers to grant for authors who need them. All requests for APC waivers should be emailed to Morgan Varner prior to submission: [email protected]
