The Association for Fire Ecology is an international organization of professionals dedicated to improving the knowledge and use of fire in land management through science and education. Our members are scientists, educators, students, managers, practitioners, policymakers, and interested citizens helping to shape the emerging profession and growing field of fire ecology.
Every two years, AFE organizes and hosts the International Fire Ecology and Management Congress. In addition, we host smaller fire ecology conferences on regional or topical themes. AFE publishes a peer-reviewed journal with SpringerOpen called Fire Ecology, recognizes outstanding fire ecologists with our Lifetime Achievement and Student Excellence awards, and provides formal certifications for wildland fire professionals and academic programs.
Anyone can become a member of AFE, and through active involvement in our events, programs, and projects can help shape the emerging profession and growing field of fire ecology.
